Anubrata Mondal has been reappointed as the chairman of the State Rural Development Authority (SRDA), a position he held continuously until 2019. After being released on bail in the cross-border cattle smuggling case, Anubrata Mondal had not been assigned any official post in the state government until yesterday. On Saturday, a fresh notification from Nabanna was issued stating that Anubrata Mondal has been appointed as the Chairman of the State Rural Development Authority (SRDA) with immediate effect.

This post previously entitled Anubrata Mondal to a vehicle with fitted blue beacons and Z-Category security protection before his arrest by the CBI and subsequently by the ED. He was taken to New Delhi by the ED, and after two years, he was granted bail last year and released from Tihar Jail along with his daughter Sukanya Mondal. He has already been appointed as the chairman of the TMC Core Committee in Birbhum.

Mr Mondal was very close to TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee, who was particularly impressed by his organizational skills. Along with Birbhum, he still oversees the organisation in two areas in East Burdwan district. CM Mamata Banerjee had appointed him as the chairman of the State Rural Development Authority in 2013. During his tenure in jail, the post remained vacant, and no one replaced him. With today’s latest appointment, it seems that Kesto Mondal is slowly regaining power within the Trinamul Congress in Birbhum district.
